This is the most personal post I have written. It is about where I genuinely believe businesses that act now are heading — and the specific gap between them and those still watching from the sideline.
I want to describe a business I think you can build. Not hypothetical. A realistic picture of where a company that starts building intentionally today will be in 36 months — based on the trajectory I watch in the businesses I work with.
What That Business Looks Like
Your AI handles the first contact with every customer, prospect, and inbound enquiry — at any hour, in any channel. It knows your full product range, your policies, your brand voice, your team’s escalation preferences. It books appointments, answers pre-purchase questions, processes returns, tracks orders, follows up with prospects that have gone quiet.
Your team handles the work that matters: complex problems, relationship-building, judgment calls, creative work, strategy. They spend zero time on tasks they could describe in three sentences. Their job satisfaction is higher because the part of the job that felt like an endless queue no longer exists.
You have 36 months of performance data. You know exactly what your AI handles well, where it needs support, which customer segments benefit most. That data informs your product decisions, pricing, marketing, and hiring.
What Separates This Business From the One That Waited
The business that starts building in 2026 will have 36 months of customer interaction data, conversation history, and trained models specific to their operation. The business that starts in 2029 will begin from scratch while their competitor operates with a compounding intelligence advantage built over three years.
Gartner projects that by 2029, AI agents will resolve 80% of customer service issues without human involvement. The businesses arriving at 2029 with three years of deployed AI will already be at or beyond that threshold. Those starting in 2029 will be at 20%.
What to Build Today
You do not need to build the full vision today. You need to build the foundation. One workflow automated well, measured rigorously, optimised monthly. From that foundation, everything follows. The second workflow goes faster. The third faster still. By month 18, you have an operation with a compounding advantage that competitors watching from the sideline will find increasingly hard to replicate.
The best time to start was last year. The second best time is today. And the gap between today and next year is larger than the gap between last year and today.
I started Chatpliance because the businesses that deserved to benefit most from AI — the ones working hard, building something real, serving real customers — were not getting the honest, accountable implementation support they needed.
